Terms & conditions

Last updated: 18 May 2026. These terms govern your use of trymyluck.co.uk and entry into any competition we run.

โš  Draft โ€” must be reviewed by a UK competitions-law solicitor before publication. The text below is a starting template. Bracketed placeholders [LIKE THIS] need to be filled in. Wording around the skill question, free entry route, prize substitution and limitation of liability in particular needs specialist review.

1. About us

trymyluck.co.uk ("we", "us", "our") is operated by Thames Network Limited, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 08207668, with registered office at Unit 50 New Lydenburg Street, London, SE7 8NE. Our VAT number is [VAT NUMBER OR REMOVE]. Our ICO registration number is [ICO REF].

You can contact us at hello@trymyluck.co.uk.

2. Nature of competitions

Each competition offered on trymyluck.co.uk is a prize competition for the purposes of s.14(5) of the Gambling Act 2005. To enter, you must answer correctly a question requiring a degree of skill or judgement; only correct entries are eligible to win. A free postal entry route is available for every competition, as set out in free entry. Free entries have the same chance of winning as paid entries.

Our competitions are not lotteries, and we do not hold a UK Gambling Commission operating licence. We are not regulated by the Gambling Commission.

3. Eligibility

  1. You must be 18 years or older.
  2. You must be a resident of the United Kingdom.
  3. You must not be an employee, contractor, immediate family member of an employee, or otherwise connected with Thames Network Limited.
  4. Each entrant may enter as themselves only, using accurate personal details. Multiple accounts, fake names, and entries on behalf of others are not permitted.

4. How to enter

You may enter any active competition by:

  1. Paid online entry โ€” selecting the competition, answering the skill question correctly, and paying the published entry fee through our online checkout.
  2. Free postal entry โ€” sending a postcard or A6 piece of paper with all the details listed on free entry. One entry per envelope; no limit on number of envelopes.

Both routes are weighted equally in the draw.

5. Skill question

Every competition includes a skill question. You must give the correct answer to qualify โ€” incorrect answers are not entered into the draw. We will not refund paid entries with incorrect answers; this is part of the competition. The skill question is published on the competition page and is the same for paid and free entrants.

6. Entry limits

Each competition page sets a maximum number of paid entries per person (typically 75). This limit applies across all email addresses, payment cards and physical addresses reasonably linked to one person. Free postal entries are not capped.

7. The draw

  1. The draw will take place on the date published on the competition page, whether or not the ticket cap has been reached, unless we have stated otherwise in advance.
  2. Draws use the Random.org third-party RNG and are streamed live on our YouTube channel.
  3. Before the draw, we publish a SHA-256 hash of the full entry list (paid + free) so the pool cannot be changed after the draw.
  4. The result is final. We do not enter into correspondence about the random draw output.

8. Prizes and prize substitution

  1. The prize is as described on the competition page.
  2. For physical prizes, a cash alternative is offered at the percentage of retail value stated on the relevant competition page. The winner may choose either, but must do so within 7 days of being notified.
  3. If, for reasons beyond our control, we cannot provide the prize exactly as described, we reserve the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value, or to pay the cash alternative.
  4. Prizes are not transferable to another person.

9. Winner notification and verification

  1. Winners will be contacted by phone and email within 24 hours of the draw.
  2. Winners must provide proof of identity, age (18+) and UK residency before the prize is released. Acceptable ID: UK passport, UK driving licence, or another government-issued photo ID plus a recent utility bill or bank statement.
  3. If a winner does not respond within 14 days of the first notification, or fails to provide ID, we may redraw the prize.
  4. By winning, you consent to your first name and county being published on the Winners page and used in our marketing for up to 12 months. We will not publish your full address, contact details, or photo without your separate written consent.

10. Payments and refunds

  1. Paid entries are processed by [STRIPE / PAYMENT PROCESSOR]. We do not store your full card details.
  2. All prices include any applicable taxes.
  3. Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, the 14-day cancellation right does not apply to "betting, gaming and lottery services" โ€” and we treat prize competitions in the same way: paid entries are non-refundable once submitted, save where the competition is cancelled or where the law requires a refund. [LAWYER: confirm this position for skill-based prize competitions specifically.]
  4. If we cancel a competition before the draw, all paid entries will be refunded.

11. Cancellation and changes

We reserve the right to cancel, postpone or amend a competition where reasonably necessary (e.g. fraud, supplier failure, regulatory change). Where this happens after entries have been taken, we will refund all paid entries within 14 days.

12. Conduct, fraud and disqualification

We may disqualify any entrant we reasonably believe to have:

Disqualified paid entries are non-refundable.

13. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or any liability that cannot be limited under English law.

Subject to the above, our total liability to any entrant in connection with any single competition is limited to the greater of (a) the entry fees that entrant paid for that competition or (b) the cash alternative value of the prize. We are not liable for loss of profit, loss of goodwill, or any indirect or consequential loss.

[LAWYER REVIEW REQUIRED โ€” limitation of liability wording in consumer terms must be reasonable under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.]

14. Complaints

If you have a complaint, please email complaints@trymyluck.co.uk. We will acknowledge within 2 working days and respond fully within 14 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may refer the complaint to [ADR PROVIDER โ€” e.g. IBAS or another approved ADR scheme].

15. Data protection

We process your personal data in accordance with our privacy policy and the UK GDPR / Data Protection Act 2018.

16. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, except that consumers resident in Scotland or Northern Ireland may bring proceedings in their local jurisdiction.

17. Cookies

We use a small number of cookies for: keeping you logged in, remembering your age-gate choice, processing payments (Stripe), and basic analytics. We do not use advertising cookies that share data with third parties without your consent. See our privacy policy for full detail.
